GS1-128 Symbology Information

GS1-128 barcodes formerly know as EAN128 are used for supplychain labelling.

They have multiple lengths depending on the information being encoded, the last digit being a check digit calculated from the other digits.

They have multiple sections based on application identifiers (AI's) to determine what each section is used for.

The primary identifier for the company using the GS1 128 barcode is allocated by GS1, a global organisation that allocates a company prefix to members for a yearly fee. You can apply for a GS18 for your products when you become a member.
